In Germany, New Year's Eve is the bigger holiday than January 1, which means that more things are closed. So we took a train trip to the Bavarian Alps, stopping first in Murnau am Staffelsee (where I took the picture) and then continuing to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Once again, I really loved watching the scenery from the train. It also happened to be a warm, sunny day, which was cool, except for how unseasonable it felt.
Garmisch had great views of the mountains, Christmas lights, and outdoor Gluhwein stands. We found a pizza place for dinner, then another stop for Gluhwein and Kinderpunsch, and then took the train back to Munich. We'll be ringing in the new year playing cards and enjoying a bottle of wine I found at a late-night pizza vendor who had a nice selection of wines to go. Frohes Neues!
