Our group quarantine ended after we took tests in the morning. The group members who still tested positive are receiving good care in Wittenberg. The rest of us then hopped on the tour bus and made a quick stop in Eisleben (where Luther was born and died) before continuing to Erfurt, which is one of my favorite cities.
On a personal level, I like Erfurt because one of the more adventurous stories from my family history starts here, with a young woman named Rosina from 6 generations ago, who seems to have left her home just outside Erfurt to marry for love and move to the US. I wish I knew more of the details, but that's a pretty good story already.
Our group had a great walking tour and then ate a delicious dinner of sauerbraten, rotkraut, and kloesse (potato dumplings). I also found one of my all-time favorite beers: Koestritzer Schwartzbier. After dinner, I got myself nice and disoriented on the twisty roads of the old town. I heard organists practicing inside both the big cathedral and another church. I really like this town.
